CHICAGO THEATERS - THE GRANADA

In Rogers Park on the very northside of Chicago sat a grand Rapp and Rapp theater called The Granada.   These are the only pictures I can find so far of it.  The Granada also served as a live entertainment venue in the seventies with sporadic midnight movies until neglect took it's toll and while trying to be funded for restoration, the roof collapsed sealing it's fate.   The lobby in this theater was awesome.  Gigantic and marble with crystal chandeliers hanging everywhere and a grand staircase at the end.   I have a bead from one of the chandeliers that I received during a midnight showing of 2001: A Space Odessy.   While taking a break from the movie, a friend and I stood in the lobby alone whispering when directly between us a bead fell from the impossibly tall ceiling and you could hear the echoing "tik tik tiktiktiktikikikikik" as it settled directly between where we stood.  I took this as an omen and snatched it up.

Where Devon, Braodway and Sheridan meet.  Now stands a strip mall.

The following were taken from the Granada exterior.
